Voices Of War

My veteran enlisted in the Marine Core in 1965 after graduating from City college in New York City. My veteran served in the Vietnam war for 39 months and completed his innitial enlistment in 1969. He joined the Marine core and became sniper scout simply because he felt the patrotic duty to protect his country. My veteran was ranked 2nd Marine and was in charge of a 4 to 6 man sniper team on the daily basis. He attended basic training in Paris Island Camp Lagoon and was stationed around the central cost of Vietnam in Da Nang, and he said many days he would just stay posted on a roof or in a tree for hours waiting for a target and that was his everyday life in the Vietnam war. In conclusion my veteran feels that the Marine core has made him a better man and he thanks them for it, and added that the army isn't bad war is. My veteran threw away all of his metals because they reminded him of harsh memories. He has no contact with any of the Marines he served with because of PTSD. He said PTSD has affected many war veterans and the government should really provide more funding to help solve this problem. He was very comfortable talking about his service and said hr felt good and thanked me several times for helping him get those feelings and memories out.
